One of the best things about jetting off on holiday is having the time to chill by the pool or at the beach with a good book. Whether you prefer paperbacks or e-readers, it's always nice to settle down with a great read while you catch a tan. In case you don't know which books to take with you this year, we've put together a couple of our favourites and bestsellers that are top of our must read list!
The Versions of Us by Laura Barnett
I noticed this one on a list of Buzzfeed's best summer reads and it definitely caught our eye. Compared to the film 'Sliding Doors', this romantic novel is all about chance decisions in life that could change everything. With twists and turns and parallel storylines, it sounds like an engaging story and the perfect new romance read for the summer!
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
If you loved Gone Girl then this book Gillian Flynn released back in 2009 could be another favourite. Based around the story of a girl whose whole family was murdered when she was a child, and her brother in prison for the crime, when she starts to look into the story some shocking events come to light. I read this last summer and it's a compelling page-turner that has you guessing until the very end. Perfect for those fans of crime and mystery novels.
The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins
Another one that had been popping up on various bestseller lists is The Girl On The Train. Described as a 'psychological thriller', this debut novel under her own name for Paula Hawkins seems to be one of those books that you just won't be able to put down. The plot surrounds the story of a young girl who cannot remember much about the night a young woman went missing near her old home and with characters that you can't trust, it sounds like an absolute must read!
Us by David Nicholls
The most recent novel from the author who brought us 'One Day', Us tells the story of a family on a last chance holiday to unite them together and bring the middle-aged marriage spark back. With One Day being such a smash hit and glowing reviews for this latest book, it looks like a great read to settle down on a sun lounger with.
The Cuckoos Calling by Robert Galbraith
The first in a series of books by J.K. Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. The Cuckoos Calling tells the story of Cormoran Strike, an ex-military private investigator who is hired to solve the mystery of a famous model's untimely death. With an excellent plot line and brilliant character construction, this is one I really couldn't put down! With the second novel in the series, The Silkworm, just as compelling, these books are a great read for anyone who enjoys a good crime novel.
